May 7 is the street date for Jim Lauderdale's two (that's right TWO) new releases on Dualtone Nashville.  This will be a double dose of prime Lauderdale - one Americana release ("Hummingbirds") and one hard core bluegrass with Dr. Ralph Stanley ("Lost In The Lonesome Pines").

THE WHITES RECEIVE GRAMMY NOMINATIONS FOR THEIR PARTICIPATION IN THE O
BROTHER, WHERE ART THOU? AND DOWN FROM THE MOUNTAIN SOUNDTRACKS

Nashville, Tennessee...Ceili Music recording artists, The Whites, share
honors with the 'Various Artists' who received GRAMMY nominations last
Friday for their contributions to two of the biggest albums of the year - O
Brother, Where Art Thou? and Down From the Mountain.
The various artists involved in the O Brother, Where Art Thou? soundtrack
received a nomination in the prized Album of the Year category, while
artists included in the Down From the Mountain soundtrack were nominated in
the Best Traditional Folk Album category.
The Whites' involvement in the O Brother soundtrack has translated into an
exhilarating, whirlwind stretch for the trio this past year, including
major recognition by the music industry. In November, The Country Music
Association (CMA) embraced the soundtrack to O Brother, Where Art Thou?,
awarding the album with the esteemed Album of the Year Award. In October,
the O Brother soundtrack was recognized at the International Bluegrass
Music Association's (IBMA) Awards Show, where the album won the respected
Album of the Year Award.
The Whites have also made numerous appearances in promotion of O Brother,
including performances at New York City's Carnegie Hall and on The Late
Show with David Letterman. In addition, The Whites are scheduled to
participate in the highly-anticipated 18-city "Down from the Mountain"
tour, featuring music from O Brother, beginning in Lexington, Kentucky
January 25th.

Jim Hurst and Missy Raines have joined the Class Act roster of artists! Missy is a four time (and current) IBMA Bass Player of the Year recipient.  Jim Hurst was also voted this year's IBMA Guitar Player of the Year.   The duo records for Pinecastle Records and tours heavily as a two piece unit.   Popular both as main stage attractions and workshop leaders, Hurst & Raines are top-shelf acts for sure. Welcome aboard Jim & Missy!

We are thrilled to announce exclusive representation of the incredibly talented new acoustic group The Waybacks.  Who are The Waybacks you may ask? Their music features acoustic guitar, mandolin, fiddle, bass and brushy drums with harmony vocals ... but what do you call it? "Americana?" "Newgrass"? "Crabgrass?" maybe?

"Acoustic Mayhem" is the term that best sums up the sound of The Waybacks ... it's everything from Kumbaya-free folk to cowboy jazz, Tin Pan Alley, space-jam, both country and western, Celtoid, agnostic gospel, beat poetry, Grappelli - esque swing and eccentric originals.     If you haven't heard of them, you soon will!

Ryan Holladay took first place at the Smithville (TN) Fiddler's Convention in the National Championship for Beginner Country Musicians category.  The youngest entrant by several years, Ryan was voted number one in both banjo and mandolin categories.    WOW!    Way to go Ryan!

Jim Lauderdale selected to play the role of George Jones in the new musical drama based on the legendary "First Lady of Country Music" Tammy Wynette.  Stand By Your Man: The Tammy Wynette Story will run September 12 - October 28 as part of the Bellsouth Musical Series at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville.

The O Brother performance at Carnegie Hall in New York City was met with huge success - multiple encores and a sold out crowd was the perfect recipe for an electrifying night of music that underscores the success of the O Brother soundtrack and movie.  The Whites have enjoyed being a part of the phenomenal success of the soundrack.

Congrats to THE WHITES for their participation in the certified platinum "O Brother Where Art Though" sound track!  Mercury Records honored the cast of the sound track at a special platinum party in early May.  The Whites will play Carnegie Hall on June 13 along with other musicians from the sound track.

Darrell Scott strikes Number One again with Travis Tritt!  Tritt's  version of Darrell's "It's a Great Day To Be Alive" struck number one in May and is receiving big time airplay all over the country.  You'll also hear the unmistakable voice of John Cowan on Tritt's version as well.  Way to go Darrell!

BMI honored Darrell Scott with a "Number One" party on January 25, celebrating Sara Evan's number one achievement with Darrell's "Born To Fly" original, co-written with Marcus Hummon and Sara Evans.   Also, Travis Tritt has "It's A Great Day To Be Alive" out as a single and receiving great airplay.

Congrats to Tim O'Brien & Darrell Scott for their GRAMMY nomination for Best Country Instrumental Performance for the cut "The Second Mouse" from Real Time on Tim's label, Howdy Skies Records!

Jim Lauderdale was honored at the recent BMI Awards as his "What Do You Say To That?", a co-write with Melba Montgomery, was recognized as one of the 50 Most Performed Songs in the BMI repertory from April 1, 1999, until March 21, 2000.

Quote of the day:  Things turn out best for those who make the best of the way things turn out (John Wooden).

Bill & Bonnie Hearne are available for select dates.  They are touring in support of their new Back Porch Records Release "Looking Through The Windshield".  They also appear on the new "I-10 Chronicles" release on Narada which also features Lyle Lovett, Willie Nelson and others.

Big congrats to RONNIE STEWART on his IBMA Fiddle Player of the Year Award!! It's an award that is well deserved!.   Also congrats to the entire Lynn Morris Band for their nominations this year...Lynn for Female Vocalist of the Year, Marshall for Bass Player of the Year.

A big "Attaboy" goes to Buck White as well, for bringing home two IBMA Awards of his own - for his participation in the Bluegrass Mandolin Extravaganza in the categories of  Recorded Event of the Year, and Instrumental Album of the Year. Great to see Buck on stage at the IBMA Awards!

Ryan Holladay's long awaited release is now available on Bell Buckle Records.  The project features the growing talents of one of bluegrass music's greatest young stars with some impressive help from the likes of Earl Scruggs, Mike Snider, Ronnie McCoury and others!

Tim O'Brien's Crossing tour this fall was such a big hit, he has decided to book a November 2001 tour as well.  Although the show has featured a rotating cast, the shows have been overwhelmingly received and has consistently won favor among both Irish and American music critics. The Crossing will appear on December 9 at the Kent State Folk Festival and will feature Mary Chapin Carpenter along with John Williams, Kevin Burke, Dirk Powell and Darrell Scott.

Thanks to all who helped make the Red Wine tour another huge success.  "Our Italians" as we've come to call them always look forward to their trip to the U.S. each year, and we are already making plans for their fall tour next year, which will start in September and go into early October.

Have you heard Lynn Morris' new public service announcement, Spay Your Pet?  It's a funny song with a serious message, so check it out!    Copies of the CD can be ordered from Lynn at P.O. Box 2324, Winchester, VA, 22604.

Have you heard The Whites' new release, "Lifetime In The Making"?   Wow...it's a keeper for sure.  Produced by Jerry Douglas, the album features some wonderful new material from the likes of Jim Lauderdale, Claire Lynch, Billy Joe Foster and Keith Little, and includes a special appearance by Emmylou Harris.
